Cei doi pitici înfruntă gerul sub balconul unui bloc de undeva din Turnişor. Şansele lor să supravieţuiască sunt aproape nule, în condiţiile unor temperaturi negative atât de scăzute ca cele înregistrate acum la Sibiu: -15 grade Celsius.

Ar putea fi găsiţi îngheţaţi în oricare din următoarele dimineţi.

Orice soluţie, fie ea temporară, pentru cei doi e mai bună decât moartea cu care îi ameninţă gerul. Orice soluţie la care se poate gândi cineva. Un coleg, o bunică, o mătuşă, un prieten, oricine i-ar putea adăposti într-un garaj, într-o pivniţă, oriunde numai sub cerul liber nu, cel mai probabil le-ar salva viaţa. Voluntarii Animal Life au curţile pline. Daţi-ne o mână de ajutor. Adapostiţi-i de frig pe cei doi micuţi, chiar şi temporar. Povestea maratonului de sterilizări de vara trecută, în cuvintele prietenilor noştri din Finlanda:


Our association here in Finland, Kodittomien koirien ystavat, had been cooperating with the Romanian association Animal Life for almost a year – rehoming their dogs and helping them financially whenever we could. I had personally visited Romania several times so I knew what I could expect, however this was the first time I would actually got to follow a Spayathlon from up close.

We arrived in Sibiu and were as always warmly welcomed by the members of Animal Life – people that put their heart and soul rescuing these animals that no-one else cares for. I have always admired their ability to do fulltime jobs and running a shelter at the same time. They have no spare time, no holidays and no money; whatever extra they have goes to the dogs. I truly adore these people!

The Spayathlon took place Sunday and Monday – the last day in May and first in June. In the morning we were all gathering outside the hotel we were staying at, the veterinary team from Bucharest had arrived the night before. After a quick introduction we drove to the clinic of Dan Gheoca, a very kind man who helps the volunteers in Animal Life a lot. He had generously offered to let the Spayathlon take place in his clinic.

The vet team immediately started working and the first dogs arrived at ten o’clock. Animal Life had done a lot of advertising in the newspapers and they were expecting a lot of people. And a lot of people came, and when there was a small break they neutered some of the dogs from the shelter. I have never seen a vet clinic so hectic yet so organized. Everybody knew their position and everybody were invited to help, even if it was just small things like shaving a dog before the surgery or keeping them warm afterwards.

We finished off the first day at about 6 PM and I have never been as exhausted in my life. The volunteers of Animal Life were also tired and one of the veterinarians, Dr. Aurelian, made a joke about why it was always the volunteers being the most tired although the veterinarians do the hardest part of the job. We had a good laugh and we all agreed that was the case.

The next day would be even more special. The World Woof Tour was coming to town to film the Spayathlon and the evening before we were all supposed to go out for dinner. However, Joanne and Oscar the dog decided to stay at the hotel because they were tired, which is understandable since it was their 13th country visited in two weeks! Instead, we met with Livia from Bucharest and her partner. They were guiding Joanne and the filming crew during their stay in Romania. We had a pleasant evening although we almost fell asleep at the dining table.

The next morning while sitting at the breakfast table I hear the sound of paws marching down the stairs. Yes, it was Oscar. He took his place under a table while Joanne and the camera man ate, but I’m sure he was given one or two treats during the time. Later we all met outside the hotel. Joanne wanted to film at Animal Life’s shelter first and afterwards we went to the Spayathlon. They interviewed Dr. Aurelian and got some great shots of the surgeries. Joanne was clearly enjoying herself and the good company of the vets, but the camera man seemed somewhat dizzy watching a neutering process so up close.

After Joanne, Oscar and the rest of the crew left we continued our day. Again we weren’t finished until after 6 PM and the result from two days work was astonishing: 111 dogs and cats neutered! I could hardly believe my ears.

As a foreigner in Romania, you are always prepared for the worst, but I have to say this Spayathlon was one of my happiest memories from Romania. To see all people come together and work like mad for little or no pay, and all the owners who were so worried about their beloved dogs and grateful to Animal Life and the veterinarians for sterilizing their pet, thus giving it a better life. Some owners donated as much as they could spare – and even if it was only equivalent of 3 dollars it was a lovely gesture. Many of them left with tears in their eyes, hugging their pets as if they were never to let go.

You could tell by the way Dr. Aurelian and the rest of the veterinary team was working that they were very experienced. Not many of the rest of us could keep up with their pace and yet they treated each dog as an individual and with great compassion, and it was heart-warming to see how they some times took a minute to cuddle with the dogs. I have nothing but great respect for these people.

Thank you so much Romania Animal Rescue for the work you are doing, it really does make a difference! And thank you all donors who make Spayathlons like these possible. Through this synopsis, I wish I can convey you some of the joy, happiness and gratefulness we all experienced during these days and above all: the compassion we feel for the animals in this land of suffering.

Focus Sibiu 2009, prima expoziţie de fotografie de presă din Sibiu va fi deschisă publicului vineri, 18 decembrie, începând cu ora 18. Cele 120 de lucrări din portofoliul autorilor, care vor fi expuse timp de o lună în curtea interioară a Primăriei Municipiului Sibiu, vor curpinde cele mai importante evenimente prezentate de mass-media din Sibiu în anul 2009. După încheierea expoziţiei, fotografiile vor fi scose spre vânzare, fondurile obţinute urmând să fie donate asociaţiei Animal Life.

Evenimente culturale, evenimente politice care au influenţat sau care pot influenţa viaţa sibienilor, evenimente desfăşurate în premieră la Sibiu: sportive, artistice sau de altă natură, momente plăcute sau pe care unii şi-ar dori să le uite, toate au fost surprinse de fotoreporterii Silvana Armat şi Sebastian Marcovici şi urmeaza sa fie prezentate la Sibiu Focus 2009.

Focus Sibiu este un proiect fotografic început de Silvana Armat în anul 2007, ca o prezentare a celor mai importante evenimente artistice ce au avut loc în anul în care Sibiul a fost Capitală Culturală Europeană. Conceptul expozitiei a fost dezvoltat, în acest an fiind incluse fotografii surprinse de cei doi autori în cele mai importante momente care au marcat dezvoltarea oraşului Sibiu pe toate planurile. Expoziţia va fi deschisă în perioada 18 decembrie - 18 ianuarie, în fiecare zi, de luni până vineri, între orele 8 şi 16. Intrarea este liberă.

În vremuri de campanie şi procente, campania de adopţii Animal Life s-a soldat cu rezultate peste aşteptări: 7 dintre cei 10 căţei care au înfruntat frigul alături de echipa noastră sâmbătă, în centrul oraşului, au plecat alături de părinţii adoptivi spre ceea ce de acum înainte va însemna pentru ei “acasă“.

Realmente nici cei mai optimişti dintre noi nu s-au aşteptat la un răspuns atât de încurajator din partea oamenilor, răspuns pentru care le mulţumim din suflet sibienilor şi care ne motivează să revenim în Piaţa Mare şi la finele următoarelor săptămâni, pentru că alţi puiuţi aşteaptă şansa unui cămin cald, la propriu şi la figurat.

Animal Life are bucuria să cheme la o nouă campanie de adopţii pe toţi sibienii dornici să ia în casa lor un căţeluş.

A adopta un câine în această perioadă a anului înseamnă a-l salva de la moarte, pentru că frigul fiecărei ierni cruţă puţine vieţi de căţei, cu atât mai puţine în rândul puilor, care sunt cei mai expuşi pericolului de a muri îngheţaţi.

Micuţii noştri îşi vor aştepta potenţialii părinţi adoptivi pe 5 decembrie, sâmbătă, la ora 15, în Piaţa Mare din Sibiu. Le vor oferi necondiţionat dragostea lor, iar noi sperăm că vor primi în schimb toată afecţiunea pe care o merită şi că vor fi trataţi cu responsabilitate.

Smokey al nostru este doar unul dintre căţeii care au găsit un cămin în Finlanda. Imaginile de mai jos spun totul:

UPDATE: Animal Life a găsit o soluţie situaţiei disperate a celor doi caniche, cu sprijinul salonului de toaletaj canin Vi-Anne, de pe strada Hochmeister (din apropierea parcului Sub Arini). Micuţii au fost tunşi şi spălaţi, iar acum sunt în grija unor părinţi temporari, urmând a fi oferiţi spre adopţie în momentul în care starea de sănătate le-o va permite. Cei doi câini din imagini au fost aduşi la o fermă din Mohu de către proprietarul fermei. Din păcate, îngrijitorii fermei de abia se pot întreţine pe ei, darămite să mai întreţină şi pe nenumăraţii câini din zonă.

Ambii câini sunt de rasă, dar sunt într-o stare deplorabilă. Sunt extrem de slabi iar pozele spun totul despre situaţia lor. Deocamdată au primit mâncare suficientă pentru zilele următoare, urmează să fie deparazitaţi, vaccinaţi, tunşi. Din nefericire, nu am reuşit să le găsim un cămin, ca să îi putem scoate din acea fermă. Fiind de rasă, câinii vor fi adoptaţi foarte rapid, după ce starea lor de sănătate le-o va permite. Până atunci căutăm nişte părinţi temporari, care să poată ţine aceşti câini câteva săptămâni, până vor fi puşi pe picioare. Acestea sunt momentele în care simţim că munca noastră nu este în zadar. Am fost întrebaţi “ce importanţă are dacă trimiteţi un căţel în Germania?”. Iată răspunsul nostru: pentru Laika şi familia ei este foarte important!

Aceasta este o scrisoare pentru doamna drăguţă care a avut grijă de Laika.

Odată cu Laika am primit dragostea în inima mea. Este într-adevar un cadou şi îi ofer toată dragostea mea.

Laika are o viaţă frumoasă şi se simte grozav şi în preajma copiilor mei. Da, este adevarat, ochii ei minunaţi au darul de a privi direct în inima ta. Înţelege totul şi ne bucurăm din plin de timpul petrecut împreună.

Este minunat să fiu stăpâna ei şi a învăţat atât de multe! În timpul plimbărilor noastre Laika îmi povesteşte despre trecutul ei. Nu pot să exprim în cuvinte cât de dragă îmi este.

Vă mulţumesc din suflet dragă doamnă necunoscută pentru ce aţi făcut pentru Laika. Este un căţel deosebit.
